New IPR lab at SILB to boost innovation and patent training for students

The Shoolini Institute of Life Sciences and Business Management (SILB), Solan, inaugurated its new Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Lab with the help of Shoolini Intellectual Property Rights Office (SIPRO), to encourage innovation, creativity, and a strong patent culture among students and faculty.
The lab was formally inaugurated by Prof. Prem Kumar Khosla, Chancellor, Shoolini University.
The IPR Cell of Shoolini University has already played a vital role in promoting original thinking and protecting intellectual property. With over 1,700 IP applications filed and more than 150 patents granted, the Cell also supports technology transfer, entrepreneurship, and IPR strategy. It conducts Summer Patent Programmes for school students, helping young minds innovate early. The new IPR Lab at SILB is an important step in expanding these efforts.
On behalf of SIPRO, Adv. Himanshu Sharma, Senior Manager cum Assistant Professor (IPR), expressed gratitude to Mrs. Saroj Khosla, President SILB, for her leadership in making the IPR Lab possible.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Saroj Khosla highlighted the significance of patent training, stating, “Every student will undergo patent training and will be required to file at least two patents.” She appreciated the efforts of SIPRO, Dr. Dinesh Director, IPR SHoolini University, and Himanshu Sharma in bringing this vision to life.
Prof. P.K. Khosla reiterated his dream of “One Student, One Patent” and congratulated SILB and SIPRO for the initiative. He encouraged students and faculty to adopt innovation and patent culture with seriousness.
Adding to the occasion, Dr. Shalini Sharma, Director of SILB, said that the establishment of the IPR Lab will give students a practical platform to shape their ideas into impactful innovations.
Himanshu Sharma shared that the IPR Lab will be managed by SIPRO. Initially, patent applications will be filed in collaboration with Shoolini University. A SIPRO team member will visit SILB every Monday for support, and a Patent Analyst has been appointed to ensure smooth coordination between the two offices.
The IPR Lab will serve as a hub for nurturing innovation, guiding patent filing, and providing mentorship to students and faculty, he added.
